What do you think?
How are artists that make non-mainstream music going to survive in the future especially as nobody is really making money off album sales anymore?
Yes, we get to do what we like everyday which is the most important bit but is it wrong to want to earn a bit of cash from our musical creations?
Thoughts?....

Yes it's a crying shame. When the talk of money has come up sometimes I get a funny look. I'm like, I haven't worked my arse off for 9 years so you can get me to do shit for free.
Records don't sell how they used to, but people still have money. People still buy things. I think the industry just needs to reinvent itself (which is slowly is).
Yea it's frustrating. I'm full time music (AND on the dole...). I wouldn't change it for the world right now. When my car finally dies perhaps I'll re think it.
The money is there, it's just figuring out how to make music 'valuable' again.
Totally agree with you man...the industry is evolving but i think its us guys that really have the power to move it forward. The old business model of majors>artist/slaves no longer works;we all know that. SO..i believe self releasing or using services such as tunecore, or ithinkmusic are great alternatives where we can really run our own careers rather than have them managed away from us by managers or labels who just see the artist as a faceless entity. Everything is there for the taking. I wouldnt give up making music for anything and i have lots of plans for releasing my own music in my own way in the future. Lets keep this discussion going as there's lots to talk about for a long time and we can all really make a big difference with some positive forward thinking...
