Happenings..

Had a couple of offers of a deal for the new album this month. Thats a nice thing to have in this day and age and one of them looks particularly fine i have to say, so ill be looking at dropping the new album in January. Now i was gonna call the album SuperSexy but after a little thought i thought its maybe a little throwaway and cheesy so im re-thinking the title and rethinking the tracklisting and im dropping a couple of tunes and adding a couple of new ones too.

will be back in the studio next week to finish the new joints the get it all mixed down and ready to drop early next year..

Also had a great gig at the opening of Band On The Wall in manchester last week, band was sounding hot and there will be full dvd action to watch of the gig too soon..

July 09 update

Apologies for not blogging more regularly, have been caught up trying to get the album signed, rehearsing the new band and starting some new projects, one with a new vocal discovery and one which is going to be a JD73 Rhodes Trio album. Anyway, a few things are bubbling regarding the album which is great and ive got 2 shows coming up in the next couple of weeks. 1 at the limetree festival in yorkshire on 26/7/09 and the 2nd

ot the hifi club in leeds on 9/8/09.

Hope you might be able to make one! If not there'll be more upcoming

JD73 Upcoming Remixes

In between boxing off the new album, im remixing and making videos for y'all.

Today ive just finished a remix for Mozez (Zero 7) for a single called 'Signs' from his new album, what a voice!

Also upcoming soon is my DJ Regal Remix, another Nightmares On Wax Remix, My Jazzanova remix (now on my myspace player) and my New Mastersounds Remix which will be included on the US release version of their latest album Plug And Play..

Im currently making some new JD73 keyboard vids for your entertainment! Its gonna be a series of vids showing all the keys in my collection, with a proper overview of their features, sounds and plenty of ripping it up playing wise on all of them. 

The first video to come is an in depth look at the MemoryMoog Plus that i own. A rare and hugely powerful polysynth that amazes everytime i play it.

Arbiter goes bust...:O(

Well another musical instrument distributor has just bitten the dust due to the financial tomfoolery thats going on. 

Arbiter distributed two of my favourite brands 1)Moog (who im endorsed by) and 2)Rhodes over here in the UK.

My best goes out to staff at Arbiter that have lost their jobs, particulary Bryan Borcherds who ive liased with loads regarding the new Rhodes recently. As it stands i have no idea who is going to take over distribution of the new Rhodes (the Mark 7 is due to hit pre-order customers around March time). Time will tell.

Thankfully Moog have already appointed a new distributor in the UK, Source Distribution . 

If i hear anything about a UK distributor for Rhodes ill post an update straight away.

More album progress...

Im getting closer to finishing the album 'SuperSexy' now. I always make the mistake of saying when its going to be finished (i said end of Feb) but as i now remember from making Zeros and Ones, its something that us music makers should never do unless a deadline has been set by a label. So im not going to say when but it will be soon!

Im currently on with a track called 'Think Twice' featuring the vocal talents of Ella May who's currently on tour in the states fronting the live show with Nightmares On Wax. The track is very Quincy Jones esque. Think 'The Dude' meets 'Off the Wall' meets 'The Brothers Johnson' meets lots more! 

Ive also dropped some Rhodes solos in the last week (as in dropped on the track not got rid of!)

They always seem to come to me when im half asleep or exhausted so i know now that if im feeling like crap its the best time to do a solo..Think its something to do with not being too aware of your surroundings or something along those lines!

So its all coming together and sounding bigger and better than i ever imagined.. its just important that i get it right so im gonna take my time until its done.

Today, im reviewing the latest Waldorf Blofeld Keyboard that was shown at Winter NAMM 2009 for Future Music Magazine, looks, feels and sounds great so far. What with the credit crunch its great to see music businesses still thriving and developing new kit.I suppose musos will always need keyboards! I for one will never have enough! Just like Blofeld the James Bond Villian!

JD73 2009

Happy 2009 to you all and thankyou for coming by, reading this and showing your support for all things JD73! 

Im really looking forward to 2009, especially as the new album 'SuperSexy' will be hitting the airwaves. The album has 10 tracks, all songs and all mixed and produced by myself in my 'Analogue Cupboard' Studio. I feel this album to be the strongest work ive produced yet, bearing in mind i made about 3 albums before Zeros and Ones was released, and that album contains tunes that were up to 5 years old on, if you didnt already know! 

Right now im mixing down the tracks in my studio and im gonna present a little mixtape soon of the tracks for you all to hear. Think Herbie Hancock meets Prince meets Parliament meets Michael Jackson meets meets new shit,- unique but ultimately very familiar if i do say so myself! 

Currently im thinking about how to release this album..ie whether to go with a label or release myself. All will be revealed but im excited about it. 

Rest assured the reach of this new album is going to be altogether different to Zeros and Ones and so i need to do it right!
